Chicago Bears Top 5 Under 25: No. 2 - Jaylon Johnson, CB
It’s hard to believe Jaylon Johnson only turned 24 last month. He’s already been in the league for three years and has quickly become a focal point of Chicago’s defense.
Since joining the Bears in 2020, Johnson has been one of the best defensive players and has taken on the role of the team’s top outside corner for the last two seasons.
Johnson hasn’t generated many turnovers, recording one interception in three years, but what he lacks in flash he has more than made up for with his technique and skill.
The primary obstacle that has stopped Johnson from becoming a premier NFL corner has been health. He has missed multiple games in each of his three seasons in the league, including a career-high six absences in 2022.
These nagging injuries have also hindered Johnson when he’s on the field. As a result, he starts off seasons much stronger than he finishes them, which could be problematic for a more competitive team.
Still, Johnson has more than proven his worth to the Bears’ secondary and has plenty of room to grow. The Bears have plenty of talented youngsters in the secondary, but as of now, Johnson sits alone as the top guy.
