Chicago Bears Position Group No. 4: Wide Receiver

It’s crazy how quickly things can change. Just last year, the Bears’ pass-catching unit was seen as one of the worst in the league, and that belief was ultimately proven true during the early part of the 2022 season.

But since last summer, the Bears have made several moves to bolster their wide receiver room. Trading a second-round pick for Chase Claypool may have been a little excessive, but that doesn’t change the potential he has to be a playmaker in Chicago’s offense.

In addition to Claypool, the Bears were able to get D.J. Moore from Carolina, giving them a true “X” receiver. The Bears also took a Day 3 flyer on Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott, who could rotate in as a slot option.

On top of these additions, the Bears made sure to retain Equinemeous  St. Brown, who was the team’s best run-blocking receiver a year ago and is a solid depth.

As far as wide receiver rooms across the NFL go, Chicago’s is probably closer to the middle of the pack, but for a team coming off a 3-14 season, it is one of its stronger points.

Guys like Darnell Mooney and St. Brown are solid players but were unequipped for being the top two receivers on an NFL offense. Now, the Bears have much more depth and balance, which will greatly benefit Justin Fields and the entire offense.
