3 Chicago Bears whose stock has fallen before training camp
Chicago Bears running back, Trestan Ebner
Here is a player that honestly might not make the final roster. Trestan Ebner was drafted by Ryan Poles in the sixth round last year. He helped on special teams and a little as a running back a few times throughout the year. He finished the season with 54 yards on 24 carries. He also caught two of eight targets for eight yards.
On special teams, Ebner had 10 kick returns and gained 226 yards with a long of 30. Unfortunately, Ebner also had two fumbles on the year. I know that Poles drafted him and didn't re-sign David Montgomery, but too many additions at the running back position took place to think Ebner earns a spot on the final 53.
D'Onta Foreman and Khalil Herbert will be competing for the starting job early on. My money is on Foreman with Herbert remaining in the same role he had behind Montgomery. Poles and the Chicago Bears also added Roschon Johnson in the 2023 NFL Draft. Those three are going to be the top running backs on the roster. This does not leave much room for Trestan Ebner. It gets worse though. The Bears also signed Travis Homer.
Last season, the Chicago Bears only kept three running backs. There is no way they keep five. If they keep four, it will come down to who performs better -- Trestan Ebner or Travis Homer. Ebner could end up on the practice squad, but I just cannot find a spot for him on the final roster. His stock has dropped drastically.
