5 Bears players who will be gone in 2024 and their potential replacements
By Ryan Heckman
5. Justin Fields, Quarterback
Bears fans better get used to this kind of talk, because I would venture to guess there is a higher likelihood that the team moves on from quarterback Justin Fields than there is for him to stay put in Chicago. Follow the tea leaves.
He isn't a Ryan Poles draft pick. The Bears have not catered the offense around Fields' strengths, and that's also largely on Luke Getsy. But, if Poles had wanted the offense catered around Fields, he would have stepped in by now and had a little chat with Getsy.
Fields has also been questioned and publicly smeared on national television, unjustifiably so, in recent weeks. He is a talented guy who is very likable, but the Bears seem more and more ready to move on.
Possible Replacement: Caleb Williams, USC Trojans
Of course, the replacement would have to be Caleb Williams, should the Bears wind up with the no. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams is arguably the best player in college football, maybe next to Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who could join Williams in Chicago.
Williams is by far and away the best quarterback prospect we have seen in the past couple of years, and he packs a little bit of everything into the position. He makes a lot of plays in a similar fashion we see from Patrick Mahomes, and also offers a rushing threat when needed.
If Williams wound up in Chicago, it would truly be a new era for this franchise.
