Chicago Bears Trade Rumors: Yannick Ngakoue, EDGE
The signing of Yannick Ngakoue at the 11th hour of the offseason was supposed to give the Bears pass rush a boost. However, Ngakoue has struggled to find his footing in Chicago, recording only two sacks through seven games.
Why the Bears may want to move him
Ngakoue was always viewed as a short-term fix for the Bears' weak defensive line, and his underwhelming play has done little to change that narrative. There’s little incentive for the Bears to keep Ngakoue, and even a late-round pick in this spring’s draft could be enticing.
Why another team would want him
Despite his uninspiring play this season, Ngakoue has a reputation for rushing the passer. Even if he hasn’t done it as well this year, it’s hard to believe that ability has vanished. The biggest mistake the Bears made in signing Ngakoue was to make him the star of their line. Ngakoue’s presence alone hasn’t been enough to elevate the entire front four, which is understandable. For a team that already has some nice pieces up front and could use another player to complete the puzzle, Ngakoue could be more valuable.
