Justin Fields was not bad in 2023. The quarterback took a few steps forward but still did not do enough to firmly cement himself as a franchise option.
Will Chicago Bears move on from Justin Fields?
The Chicago Bears hired Shane Waldron this offseason to be the next offensive coordinator. Could Waldron prefer to go with another QB? Considering the Bears have the No. 1 overall pick and the No. 9 pick, the Bears can get any QB they want in the 2024 NFL Draft.
It is certainly possible that the Bears could once again trade the top pick and stick with Fields. However, passing up on another top prospect seems unlikely as Ryan Poles searches for his QB of the future. Today, let's identify possible landing spots for Fields if he is indeed traded.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers became a much likelier landing spot after Arthur Smith was hired as the offensive coordinator. When Smith was in Atlanta, the QB was widely rumored to be a target for the team. Now, Smith is in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers also need an upgrade at QB.
The Steelers have the No. 20 pick in the draft, which is likely not high enough to get one of the top QBs. Instead of hoping someone falls to them or rolling with Kenny Pickett again, the Steelers could go with the high-floor option of adding Fields. Mike Tomlin has never had a QB with legs like Fields, and Smith would work wonders with the QB in his offense.
