The Chicago Bears have big decisions to make in free agency this offseason. They are getting close to having the roster they want to have when they are competing, but now they have to cut the fat and improve the group as a whole. They have some decisions to make in free agency, including Justin Jones. Why would the Bears be smart to re-sign Justin Jones this offseason?

Chicago Bears should re-sign Justin Jones in free agency

Jones is coming off of a career-high 4.5 sacks. His best two seasons have been with the Chicago Bears. Justin Jones has played 740 snaps for the Chicago Bears over the last two seasons. He has proven to be reliable. He also went from 27 pressures in 2022 to 36 pressures, and his 4.5 sacks were up from three. His pass rush win rate was up, even from 5.6% to 5.7%, and his pass rush productivity went from 4 to 4.4 this year.

He has made progress with the team, and he wants to stay with this team because he sees the signs of growth. These are the types of players to build around. The Chicago Bears planned to let him go because they drafted both Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens.

However, Dexter has had moments but still has not been trusted to play much on run-downs. Will the Bears accept that drop-off? Worse than that, Pickens has been a major let down, and it is hard to say that he will take a step next year. So, the Chicago Bears can have blind faith that both of them are better next year, or they can re-sign Jones to a deal that will not be too costly, and if either of them out play Jones, they can sit him or use him as depth.

It is a low-risk decision, so why not retain Justin Jones?
