Chicago Bears 5th-Round Draft Pick: Noah Sewell, LB
25 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack
Noah Sewell is another player drafted much later than he got projected just a year ago. He was previously considered a first-round lock by many in the draft community before struggling with consistency issues last season, which ultimately dropped him to the fifth round.
Sewell could have had a more significant impact on Bears defenses of years past, but the linebacker position became a position of strength this offseason. He will compete with second-year sensation Jack Sanborn for Chicago's third starting linebacker position beside free agent additions Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards.
While the roster battle is one of the more intriguing ones to watch this preseason, it's tough to project Sewell beating out Sanborn for a starting gig. However, he gives them someone who can hold his own in a spot start or tag in whenever one of the starters needs a breather.
At the very least, Sewell's athleticism and tenacity should make him the perfect candidate to develop into a standout on special teams, and he could provide an immediate impact in the third phase.
