Before free agency started, it was hard not to pin the Chicago Bears to a right tackle. It happened to be one of their bigger needs. Beyond, that, of all of the free-agent position groups, you could say this was the strongest.

Did Chicago Bears miss out at right tackle?

Jawaan Taylor, Mike McGlinchey, and Kaleb McGary were all available and all had the pedigree, experience, and youth that would have made them quality signings. Beyond that, with all three available, the Bears may have been able to find one of them slide as value.

To be fair, Mike McGlinchey was targeted by the Chicago Bears, but they lost a bidding war where many thought McGlinchey was overpaid. Jawaan Taylor was given a left tackle salary by the defending NFL champions. It is hard to crush the team for missing there.

However, they did also see Kaleb McGary go back to his old team on a fairly reasonable deal. This may be the most surprising decision. This was the bargain that Chicago was supposed to see because the other two got paid.

There had been talks that McGary did not get paid as much as the others because he is more of a run blocker with less proven pass protection work. Still, would that not make him an even better fit considering the Bears' run scheme and quarterback? There were three options and Chicago did not grab any. Now, they shift to the next plan.

Orlando Brown is still available but takes more thought for his fit. Jermaine Eluemunor and Isaiah Wynn lead the next tier of lineman unsigned. Then, there is the draft. With Nate Davis being a right guard, they may also ask Teven Jenkins to slide to right tackle.

Needless to say, the Chicago Bears are not out of options at right tackle. However, some of the best options are gone, and now the team is looking more to secondary bets, or players with bigger question marks.
