The list of Bears championships is a whole lot bigger than the average fan might think.

For decades, now, Chicago Bears fans have held on dearly to the lone Super Bowl victory back when the 1985 squad brought home the Lombardi Trophy. It is one of the only firm achievements Bears fans can, in fact, hold onto within their long, rich history.

Any argument between a Bears fan and Packers fan will typically include the former mentioning the '85 Bears, to which it's pretty easy for the latter to talk about the number of total Super Bowl titles Green Bay has won.

Now, the Bears may have just one Super Bowl, which we'll get into here in a bit, but the organization has been home to a total of nine championships, overall.

The Bears have won one Super Bowl in their franchise history

Yes, the infamous 1985 Bears were home to a plethora of talented players and ultimately, Hall of Famers. How could anybody forget that vaunted defense? As the leader of the unit, Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary was out for blood, each and every snap. To this day, he's one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game.

Singletary was joined by fellow legends like Dan Hampton, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, William "The Fridge" Perry, and Richard Dent, who would go on to win the MVP of the game that day after his 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Offensively, the Bears were led by quarterback Jim McMahon, Hall of Fame tackle Jim Covert and Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, but the Bears won that game without Payton even finding paydirt. It was a total, team effort that even saw "The Fridge" take a hand-off into the end zone.

In the end, Chicago beat the New England Patriots by a score of 46-10.

But, again, when talking about the Bears and their championships, the story doesn't necessarily stop there.

The Bears won eight NFL Championships in the pre-Super Bowl era

Going back before they won the Lombardi in 1985, the Bears dominated the league for a few decades, but no run was more impressive than what Chicago did in the 40's, winning four championships that decade.

If you're a New York Giants fan, you might have just decided on a newfound hatred for these Bears. After all, Chicago ended their championship hopes four times in three decades.

And, if you hail as a Washington football fan, well, your franchise was on the losing end of the most lopsided championship in league history.

If you're a Bears fan, the next time someone comes at you about Super Bowls, kindly remind them of the eight championships this founding franchise won in the pre-Super Bowl era. After all, had it not been for George Halas and the Bears, the NFL may not be what it is today.
