Expectations are high for the Chicago Bears entering the 2024 NFL regular season.

In many ways, the Bears won the offseason. Despite the conflict in the city of Chicago last winter regarding whether the Bears should move forward with Justin Fields as their starting quarterback or turn the franchise over to Caleb Williams, the months since have proven that the Bears made the right decision.

Williams, since being selected by the Bears, has proven to not only be the right quarterback for the Bears moving forward but the right leader in the locker room. For all the talk there was about the arrival of Williams leading to a split in the locker room, the fact is it seems the Bears' locker room is stronger than ever.

But as Williams prepares for his first NFL game this week, the rookie quarterback is not the takeaway that Bears fans should be watching for next Sunday when the Bears take the field against the Tennessee Titans.

Chicago Bears Week 1 takeaway to watch for

The biggest takeaway that Bears fans have to watch for in the team's opening game is the progression of head coach Matt Eberflus.

Above all else, Eberflus may have had the biggest victory of the offseason of anyone within the Bears' organization. Whether it his "glow up", his improved speaking skills during press conference, or how he has handled the early month of Williams' development, the Bears' head coach seems be on the right path this offseason.

But, that progress will be stunted if the Bears fall flat against the Titans next Sunday. A repeat performance to open the season next Sunday, like the one the Bears had last season against the Green Bay Packers, would bring serious questions of whether or not Eberflus is the right head coach for the team moving forward.
