4 Chicago Bears Ryan Poles should already consider trading at the deadline
The Chicago Bears should consider trading one of these two
We all know that both Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool are playing for new contracts. Those contracts could be here in Chicago or they could end up playing elsewhere. Either way, they are both auditioning for every team in the NFL this season. The liklihood of both wide receivers being offered a contract is slim to none. In fact, I'd say the chances of both being allowed to walk away is higher than both coming back in 2024.
Chase Claypool had an awful performance in Week 1. His effort was seriously lacking and he was making mistakes consistently. Well, his second game was much better from an effort standpoint, but he still made mistakes despite finally grabbing a touchdown. Claypool has only caught three of 10 targets for 36 yards. He isn't making a great case to be re-signed but he's also driving his trade stock down.
On the otherhand, Darnell Mooney had a great Week1 performance. He caught four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. The problem is that he didn't record a single catch in Week 2 and left the game early with a bruised knee. Mooney should be ahead of Claypool in the contract extension contest (if there were one), but it's possible that neither are retained beyond the 2023 season. Mooney's trade value should be higher than Claypool's at this point too.
If I was Ryan Poles, I'd be considering trading one of these two. It will come down to who I may keep vs. who I'd be okay with losing. It would also come down to who nets the best trade compensation.
