A top priority for Ryan Poles this offfseason is to find an offensive tackle

As Bears fans know in his big trade, Poles also received the 61st pick in the 2023 draft, the Panther's first-round pick in 2024, and their second-round pick in 2025. Now, the Bears GM has to figure out exactly how to fill four other prime starting positions OT, 3T, and really 2 DEs. Cornerback should also be a consideration. So Ryan Poles needs to lay out a smart strategy using free agency and, preferably, a trade to set up the best possible offseason for the Bears.

In deciding his best strategies Poles needs to identify his top priority, and his next most important priority and on down from there. Then given his possible options, the obvious approach is to use these defined priorities as a road map. I cannot stress this enough, the Bears' absolute top priority has to be what is best for Justin Fields in both the short and long term is what is best for the Bears.

At this juncture what is next on what is best for Fields' to-do list is to put together a top-notch pass-blocking offensive line without compromising much in run-blocking ability. This is why their first pick in the draft has to be an offensive tackle. Poles was recently quoted at the owner's meetings that adding an offensive tackle is top on his players-to-draft list. Later, both Poles and Eberflus told us that Braxton Jones may end up at right tackle.

Given that the Bears are in a position to very likely draft one of the best, if not the best, offensive linemen in this draft, their plans for their offensive line should be this. Try to put together if at all possible a great offensive line for Fields. They are in a position to put together not just a good line or a very good line, but they are in a position to build a great one if not this year then possibly by next year.
