Top 3 Chicago Bears to watch against Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week #2
2. Josh Blackwell will have to start for the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are unlikely to have Kyler Gordon for the Chicago Bears week two matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gordon was a disaster last season, but this year, he was focused more on the slot, and early on, he was having a good year. Now, the team will be relying on second-year performer Josh Blackwell.
Blackwell was a rookie UDFA last year, but he played 134 snaps. He also played ten snaps with Gordon out this past week. He looked good in his limited time, but the expectations were low, given his track record. So, how does he look after a full year with the team?
This is going to be a huge matchup, and the Bucs may attack him early and often. Chris Godwin plays both the slot and outside. He ran 35 routes in week one with 19 on the outside and 16 in the slot. The Bucs should see the mismatch in the slot and line him up even more this week.
This will be a huge game for Blackwell. He will not get Godwin every snap, but he is going to get a ton. The Chicago Bears cannot move Jaylon Johnson or Tyrique Stevenson into the slot; neither has that ability or experience. Stevenson did in college but left Georgia to play outside at Miami.
If the Chicago Bears lose this week, it may be because Godwin gets the best of Blackwell. If they win, it may be because Blackwell stepped up.
