The Chicago Bears are going to need to sign a center in free agency this offseason. One player who may end up making a lot of sense is former New York Jets center Connor McGovern

Is Connor McGovern a great free agent fit for the Chicago Bears this offseason?

McGovern started his career with the Denver Broncos in 2017 as a former fifth-round pick. He missed his first season and started just five games in year two. However, after that, he spent two seasons as the Broncos starting center.

After four years with the team, he was signed by the New York Jets in 2020. From there, he started for four seasons. His first three seasons were great, but 2023 did not end on a great note. McGovern saw a new offensive coordinator and a shift in the scheme compared to the one he was signed to play in.

Then, in week eight, he suffered a knee cap injury that ended his season. Entering free agency for a bad team, it is not a shock that he did not push to return. It also would make sense for him to hit free agency.

The offense he was signed to play in was Mike LeLeFleur, so the scheme could be similar to what the Bears want to do. McGovern is going to be 30 years old and coming off of a bad season and season-ending surgery.

However, that may depress his market to the point where the Chicago Bears are able to sign him to a deal that works for both sides without strong competing offers from other teams.

If the Bears got a healthy McGovern in the right scheme for the right price, it is a slam dunk of a signing. The question comes down to his health coming back from that knee injury. Should the Chicago Bears sign Connor McGovern?
