It seems that there is a bigger rivalry brewing between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions as of late. Not too long ago, Amon-Ra St. Brown spoke poorly about the Chicago Bears and the fan base while podcasting with his brother and Bears wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown. Now, during a streaming session of NBA2K, former Bears running back, David Montgomery made things even worse. Montgomery's departure didn't feel very mutual, but to bash his old team feels weak - especially since he joined the Lions.

I will point out that the teammate David Montgomery was playing with was C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Cardner-Johnson has a history of pushing the buttons of Chicago Bears players and fans. He is the instigator of the Javon WIms fight and also an altercation with former wide receiver Anthony Miller.

Gardner-Johnson asked Montgomery about the losing era he played in while here in Chicago. Montgomery had this to say:

""That's all I was used to. And it got to a point where it sucked the fun out of the game for me because I'm a competitor. I like to compete. That's what football's about. It's so refreshing to be in a place where that's appreciated.""

Look, I understand that on paper, the Detroit Lions look like a strong team heading into the 2023 NFL season. They are coming off a strong finish to 2022. The team still only finished 9-8 though. I think it is funny how David Montgomery has forgotten what took place during his four years in the league. 2019 was Montgomery's rookie season and the Lions finished 3-12-1. The Chicago Bears finished 8-8. The next year, the Bears went 8-8 again while the Lions went 5-11. In 2021, Chicago went 6-11 and the Lions went 3-13-1.

Even including last season, the Chicago Bears were 25-41 while the Lions were 20-44-2. Remind me again how the Lions appreciate winning. The team has not made the playoffs since 2016 and hasn't won a playoff game since 1991. Now, I'm not saying the Chicago Bears have been a winning organization, but the comment by David Montgomery is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not sure why Montgomery is even making these comments outside of being provoked by Gardner-Johnson. He was a leader here in the Bears locker room and a fan favorite. Now he got paid.
