ESPN analyst's recent declaration involving the Chicago Bears might be wildest yet

National media analysts are constantly looking to aggregate engagement. This recent take involving the Chicago Bears and the NFC North by ESPN's Dan Orlovsky might be one of his worst takes ever and I don't think he truly believes it.

No. 1: Chicago Bears

We are now left with the team that has the best-receiving options within the 2024. Looking at the roster last year, I wouldn't have felt the team deserves this ranking. In fact, I would have had the Bears competing with the Packers near the bottom of the list. Let's see how the depth chart looks this year.

Depth Chart
WR1: DJ Moore
WR2: Keenan Allen
WR3: Rome Odunze
WR4: Tyler Scott
WR5: TBD
WR6: TBD

TE1: Cole Kmet
TE2: Gerald Everett

DJ Moore

I have Moore as the second-best WR in the division, just ahead of Amon-Ra St. Brown. He's one of the most underrated WRs in the NFL and has finished with over 1,000 yards receiving in 4 of his 6 seasons. Last year was the best statistical year of his career and he was rewarded with a new contract extension. Knowing that I would only put Justin Jefferson ahead of him, Chicago comes in second at the WR1 spot.

Keenan Allen

To have only given up a fourth-round pick for one of the most productive WRs in the NFL is insane -- I don't care how old he is or that he's on the last year of his contract. Allen finished with 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns last year. Combined, Moore and Allen finished with more receiving yards than Green Bay's top four receivers combined last season. Even at 32, Allen is the best WR2 in the division. It will be interesting to see if he returns in 2025 and beyond.

Rome Odunze

We don't know what we are getting with Rome Odunze in his rookie season, but as a top-10 draft pick, I'm expecting big things. Even with Moore and Allen ahead of him, Odunze has the potential to be the best WR3 in this group. Should one of Allen or Moore go down, he could push to be the second-best WR2 in the group behind Jordan Addison. The Chicago Bears have serious depth at this position.

The Rest

Cole Kmet does not even make the Chicago Bears' top 3 receiving threats this season despite finishing 2023 with 719 yards and six touchdowns. If you add in his production to Allen's and Moore's last year, the three combined for more receiving yards than the Packers'' top five receiving options. Gerald Everett is a legit tight end and could be the TE1 for many teams. Tyler Scott is an up-and-coming young receiver and a strong WR4.

Final Thoughts

I tried to be as unbiased as I could, but this team has three strong receiving options at wide receiver, a top-10 tight end, and a very good backup tight end. Many might say that there's no way for the team to reach these heights based on the past, but Shane Waldron's offense is not Luke Getsy's offense. The Chicago Bears only threw the ball 513 times last year. This compares to the other teams in the NFC North throwing the ball 581 times, 605 times, and 631 times. I repeat Caleb Williams and Waldron are not Justin Fields and Getsy.
