5 free agent offensive lineman Chicago Bears should sign before training camp
1. Chicago Bears should reunite with Tom Compton
If Chicago Bears fans do not remember the Tom Compton era, we can forgive them. It was a short and brief stint with the team. Compton was here in 2017 under John Fox, and he played just 342 snaps at right and left guard.
However, it may be time for him to circle back. Compton is a career journeyman and has been in the NFL since 2013. He will be 34 by the end of this year. He started in Washington, then moved to Atlanta before catching on with the Bears.
From there, he went to the Vikings, Jets, 49ers, and the Denver Broncos. As we said, he is a journeyman. He is also a four-position player. Compton has 1,161 snaps at right tackle, 962 at left guard, 791 at right guard, and 108 as the blindside.
The fact that he is a veteran who can help Darnell Wright only adds to the reality that he is quality depth in a few spots. The Chicago Bears should at least give him a call to guage his interest before training camp, because the offensive line room could use a few more names before things settle in.
