The Chicago Bears have a full roster, but it is never quite complete, as the team can always upgrade and make moves. We saw last year that the team made a few moves right before training camp, and the same may also happen this year. If the Bears are looking to the offensive line, plenty of names are still out there.

Who are the best free-agent offensive lineman for the Chicago Bears to sign before training camp starts?

5. Should Chicago Bears sign George Fant?

George Fant went from a project with the Seattle Seahawks to a trusted starter for a few years. He started 60 games in his career in 2016 and has 3,742 snaps. What makes him enticing to the Chicago Bears is that he has 2,113 snaps at left tackle and 1,188 snaps at right tackle.

That means he can fill in for both if needed. The Chicago Bears should consider this when looking at their depth chart. Larry Borom is the backup at both spots when you break it down, and he has not been trusted in the NFL. Beyond that is Alex Leatherwood, who should not be on a 53-man roster at this point.

So, the team could use some upside in the depth chart. Fant started eight games last year, but he is now 30 years and had a bad knee injury in 2021 that impacted his play and his ability to stay on the field. That is why no team has taken a bite of him yet, and he is probably waiting to see what type of job opportunities open up right as training camp gets going.

Fant could see a rookie in Darnell Wright, and a young player in Braxton Jones who was up and down last year and think he could get on the field. It could give the Bears a solid depth option.
