Do the Chicago Bears want to sign this free-agent defensive lineman?

The obvious talk all offseason is going to surround the Chicago Bears and Chris Jones. Reports are that Chicago pursued him last offseason before he restructured his deal with Kansas City. Jones said that he does not plan to leave Kansas City, and the franchise tag will likely play a factor if needed.

Still, the Chicago Bears will call about a tag and trade scenario. Other names that will be free agents on the defensive line include Tashawn Wharton, Derrick Nnadi, and Mike Danna. Nnadi and Wharton could be solid nose tackle additions to Andrew Billings upfront. Danna would fit as an edge who slides inside at times, similar to DeMarcus Walker. The Chicago Bears would value his versatility on the line. Will the Kansas City Chiefs let any of these names walk in free agency?

Could the Chicago Bears find a cheap replacement for Eddie Jackson?

The Chicago Bears moved on from Eddie Jackson and did not have a player on their current roster to replace him. One name that has to be viewed as an option in free agency is Mike Edwards. Edwards has been a valued piece of multiple defenses since being drafted in 2019.

Edwards has mainly been a rotational third safety who can play multiple spots but has been asked to do a lot more in recent years, both on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. His best ability is back as a free safety or in the slot.

The Chicago Bears may present a chance for him to be an unquestioned starter, something he has not had in his NFL career. This makes him an obvious potential fit for the team this offseason.
