10 future questions emerging for Chicago Bears after loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7. Is Roschon Johnson gaining steam to be the top Chicago Bears RB?
The Chicago Bears made D'onta Foreman inactive, which had to be a good sign for rookie Roschon Johnson. Johnson has ascended up the depth chart quickly, and while the move did not signify he would be the starter, it does have him locked into the backup when he was the fourth string about a month ago in the preseason.
Still, the backfield belongs to Khalil Herbert, and he saw an increase with Foreman out as well. Herbert went from 36% of the snaps to 59% and went from 43% of the rushing attempts to 47%. Some of that had to do with this game being closer, and Herbert also went from 27% of the routes run to 44% of the routes run.
Still, Johnson did see an increase as well. He went from 24% of the rushing attempts to 27% of the rushing attempts and went from 37% of the snaps to 43%. So, while a lot of fans want it to be time for Johnson to take over, that may not come yet.
Now that the two man rotation is settled, is this the way things go moving forward? Or do the Bears continue to shake things up in the first few weeks of the season?
