Handing out Taylor Swift songs to the Chicago Bears after their 41-10 drubbing against the Kansas City Chiefs
You're on Your Own, Kid
To Justin Fields, who has been set up to fail by the Bears since day one. You're on your own, kid. You always have been. It's been heartbreaking seeing Fields flounder in an impossible situation. Is he a good quarterback right now? No, he's not, but I refuse to pin the blame for that on his shoulders when the Bears have never invested in an offensive line or given him an innovative coach that will design the playbook to his strengths. If a kid grows up in a broken and abusive home, there's little chance he succeeds in life. Justin is that kid, and the Bears are that home. Is it too late to salvage him? I hope not.
Blank Space
There's already chatter from Bears fans about the possibility of getting the number one pick in the draft and using it on Caleb Williams, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from USC. Like Taylor, Ryan Poles might be thinking, Oh my God, look at that face. You look like my next mistake. Giving up on Justin Fields and attaching the franchise's future to Caleb Williams will do nothing but start the cycle of pain all over again because the Bears still lack the support system needed to make a successful NFL quarterback. While Swift has a long list of ex-lovers, the Bears have a long list of ex-quarterbacks. Let's not write Williams' name on the next line.
Anti-Hero
It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me. Luke Getsy may as well be singing Taylor's lyrics as he sabotages the Bears' offense week after week. How many times can the Bears run the same predictable junk play after play? Getsy was hired from the Packers (first red flag), where he served as the team's passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Does he deserve even a scintilla of credit for the success of Aaron Rodgers? The Bears need to stop hiring coaches from other organizations that clearly aren't responsible for those teams' successes. Yes, it is exhausting rooting for this anti-hero.
