The Chicago Bears are about three weeks away from the start of the 2023 NFL season. While that is plenty of time for players to get rested and recover for week one, the team does have some lingering injuries that may present longer-term questions down the road.
Should fans be concerned about any of these injuries?
3. Tremaine Edmunds is missing significant time for the Chicago Bears
Tremaine Edmunds has been out for two weeks with an undisclosed injury. He left practice early on August 3rd and was in sweatpants on August 4th. He has not practiced since. This has caused him to miss the first preseason game, and now he is also on pace to miss week two. The hope would be that he gets back in time to shake off some rust in preseason week three, but that may not be the case.
The only real update from Matt Eberflus is that he expects Edmunds to be ready for week one, but that does not mean practicing any time soon. He will not practice Saturday, and the team will be off Sunday, so he will go into Monday sitting for 17 straight days. Is the team just playing it safe with him, or is the injury more serious than they are leading on?
More than that, there are questions about his fit in this defense. He is new to the defense and has never played next to T.J. Edwards. Edwards got a small dip into the waters in the preseason opener, and it would be nice for them to get a series of real game action before the regular season.
If Edmunds is back for week one, all will be fine, but it would be better if the Chicago Bears were able to get their highest paid free agent signing healthy and on the field to pick up the defense sooner.
