The news of week for the Chicago Bears was the four-year contract extension that wide receiver DJ Moore signed earlier this week.
Moore spoke with reporters on Wednesday in what was one of the best press conferences in recent memory. Among the takeaways from Moore talking about his new deal with the Bears was the fact that he wanted to remain with the team because of what he has seen from Caleb Williams during the offseason program and early portion of Training Camp.
Moore's arrival in Chicago prior to the 2023 season signaled a shift in the roster construction of the team. Defense has always been the backbone of the Bears as we knew the organization to be and while that was more than enough to win the Super Bowl in 1985, the year is now 2024. Offense is now the priority.
Sure, Moore's arrival, initially, may have been to pair Justin Fields with a primary wide receiver for future seasons but it's clear that Williams is an upgrade over Fields at the quarterback position. While Moore did have a strong connection with Fields, the arrival of Williams has only cemented Moore's desire to remain in Chicago.
Is DJ Moore playing tonight?
Bears fans will likely need to wait one more week before seeing Williams and Moore on the field together in-game action. Earlier this week, Matt Eberflus confirmed that the starters will not be playing in tonight's Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans.
The Bears are following the standard blueprint for teams playing in the Hall of Fame game, as it has been rare for first-team players to dress for the game. Instead, Moore will be on the sidelines watching the action, likely being congratulated on his new deal with the team.
