Justin Fields doesn't hesitate in taking a shot at the Chicago Bears' coaching staff
Justin Fields is off to an undefeated start to the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, re-igniting the conversation among Chicago Bears fans about whether the team made the right decision this past offseason when they moved on from Fields in favor of Caleb Williams.
Fields remains a polarizing figures for Bears' fans.
While fans should want Fields to succeed with the Steelers because it would secure another fourth-round pick for the Bears, some just can't get over how the quarterback was treated during his first three seasons with the Bears.
No one should argue the fact that the Bears' current front office handled the arrival of Williams better than they did when they inherited Fields as their starting quarterback. Even through the first three weeks of the regular season, there shouldn't be a desire for Bears fans to live in an alternate universe of what this season would look like if the Bears kept Fields and traded the 2024 first-overall pick. Caleb Williams has shown more growth as a passer through his first three games at the NFL level than what Fields showed during his three seasons with the Bears.
Now, to Fields' credit, he does appear to have improved his passing mechanics this season. Perhaps, that was the reason why he wasted no time in answering who has the better coaching staff between the Bears and Steelers.
Justin Fields may not have been a fan of the Chicago Bears coaching staff.
Let's get the obvious caveats out of the way. Fields is a member of the Steelers' organization and the team's starting quarterback. If he said anything other than propping up his current coaching staff, that would've been more controversial. Also, there is no caveat needed when saying Mike Tomlin runs circles around Matt Eberflus as a head coach.
Now that we got that out of the way, duh. Of course the Steelers have a better coaching staff than the Bears. By the time Fields' last season rolled around with the Bears, he was a shell of the promising quarterback that Bears fans saw throughout his rookie season and into his second season with the team. Whether it was Luke Getsy or Eberflus preferring his quarterbacks to take the safe option, the Bears managed to coach Fields' athleticism out of him in terms of being a passing quarterback.
Fields' comments should only prove that the Bears may have made the wrong decision in keeping Eberflus and pairing him with Williams.
