With opening kickoff for the 2024 NFL season just 50 days away, The NFL’s official X (formerly twitter) account shared a post relaying that news to the public. The post is an image that features some of the league’s biggest stars, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

But as you can see in the lower righthand corner of the image, Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams is present. This clearly shows that the NFL is already marketing the young quarterback as one of the faces of the league.

Williams, who was drafted first overall in this year’s NFL Draft, has yet to play a single snap in the NFL. I don’t recall a former rookie quarterback who has been marketed by the NFL like Caleb Williams has. Sure, Joe Burrow was a big name coming out of LSU when the Bengals drafted him in 2020, but he wasn’t presented as such a “sure thing” as Williams seems to be.

The NFL is obviously thrilled that the Bears were the team to get Williams since it adds a secondary storyline in the form of a team that has had such brutal luck with drafting quarterbacks. Can he succeed with the Bears - the “place quarterbacks go to die?” Will he take the Bears to offensive heights that the fan base has yet to see from the franchise? These are some of the burning questions that come with Williams and make him so enticing for the NFL.

The other reason the NFL has featured Williams is his supporting cast. Adding Keenan Allen and drafting Rome Odunze to go along with DJ Moore gives the Bears one of the best wide receiver units in the NFL. Add in Cole Kmet, who had a career year last year, and an improved (on paper) offensive line and the recipe for success is there. The league is ready for Caleb Williams to be a star, and you’ll only see more of his name and face should he achieve success.
