Mike Tomlin's latest comments bode well for Bears, Justin Fields' future

Things continue to look great for the former Bears QB.

After only three weeks, there are plenty of folks ready to jump ship on the Caleb Williams bandwagon. For some reason, the crowd of anti-Caleb truthers are coming to ridiculous conclusions following just his third start in the NFL.

Many of those truthers will die on the hill saying, "The Bears should have kept Justin Fields," but as we know, that trade is done and over with. The Bears dealt Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers and moved in a different direction a long time ago.

But, after Fields has started out strong and is currently 3-0 with the Steelers, on the season, it's low-hanging fruit for people to point the finger and try to rewrite history with early and ridiculous narratives.

In any event, things are indeed going well for Fields over in Pittsburgh as the Steelers are undefeated and the former Bears quarterback has played very well. In three games, Fields has only absorbed six sacks, which was something he was knocked for quite often in Chicago; holding the ball too long, that is.

Fields has an impressive passer rating of 95.3, having thrown for 518 yards, two touchdowns and just one pick. He's also added 90 yards and a score on the ground, playing efficiently and taking care of the football for the most part.

More Bears news:

His performance, thus far, is all the reason his head coach needs to stick with him going forward, too.

Mike Tomlin's support for Fields continues to grow by the week, it seems, and going into Week 4, Tomlin has assured the former Buckeye that this is his job.

Revisiting the Justin Fields trade between the Bears and Steelers

This drum has been beaten many times over the course of this year, but for any fans who might not remember, the Bears dealt Fields to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

However, should Fields play 51 percent of the offensive snaps this season, that pick would turn into a fourth-round selection for Chicago. And, after this coming weekend, Fields will essentially be halfway there. If he ends up starting nine games, in total, the chances of the Bears' pick turning into a fourth rounder is all but guaranteed.

Of course, Fields has gotten this opportunity thanks to previous starter, Russell Wilson, suffering from a calf injury he had battled since training camp.

Now, Fields is no longer the backup. That much we know is true.

At this point, there's a strong feeling that even if Wilson were to come back fully healthy, the job belongs to Fields. There would have to be a monumental shift in how Fields is playing for him to lose that job.

Now, Tomlin has never been shy about making quarterback changes. But, if Fields gives no reason to be benched, then it's difficult to see Tomlin making the move anytime soon.
