The most out-of-touch Chicago Bears first-round mock draft to date

This time of year is full of mock drafts. We run them consistently too. Most of them are interesting and bring different viewpoints or potential outcomes to the table. We have looked at the possibility of the Chicago Bears holding onto Justin Fields and trading the first pick in the draft. Sometimes you will have people put a mock draft together to just get a reaction. The thought process isn't always given and you see some crazy players going early to teams you never would have guessed. Imagine someone saying the Bears would take Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, or J.J. McCarthy first overall. That sounds like an attention thing more than an actual mock draft based on sound reasoning. Well, this is one mock draft that has me going...huh?

Cynthia Frelund of the NFL Network recently released a first-round mock draft and she includes her thought processes. She admits that her thoughts are not traditional and that her pairings are more about wins in the upcoming season as opposed to future fits and development. Here are the main points on how she determines who goes where:

• Use available information about pending free agency
• Check free agents' projected market value compared to a team's anticipated salary cap
• Predict which free agents go where before looking at how a draft pick will fit with a team
• Take the best player who will help the team immediately add wins
