One bold suggestion for the Chicago Bears offensive line before Week 3

Caleb Williams has not been good through two games, but most Chicago Bears fans would tell you that his struggles start with the offensive line. Anyone watching can see that even though Williams has not been perfect, the line has been a major disappointment this season. After two bad games, fans are screaming to make changes; cut players, and start others, and some of this is fair. However, there is also a good reason to give this unit time and let it work itself out.

First, it has only been two weeks. One of the biggest strengths of an offensive line is continuity. The ability for five players to play as one is hard for any defense to get in the way of. So, scrapping this after two weeks breaks continuity and makes them start over in an area that is arguably most important.

Chicago Bears should not make any offensive line changes

The reality is that this line has not had nearly enough time to gel.

We are talking about a rookie quarterback, a center who is on a new team, and an offensive coordinator who is new to both. Assuming that Shelton will pick things up on the fly and that he and Williams will operate like experienced veterans when they just started to practice together is misguided.

In addition, Nate Davis' injuries throughout this past offseason led to alternating right guards during team practices.

So, Shelton is working with new players, and the player right next to him has been shuffling this whole time. Now, fans want to shuffle it up some more. That is not what is going to fix things.

It is a leap of faith, but the Bears need to make it. They need to trust the plan that they had this offseason and understand that as the unit gets more work together they will form into a better overall group. Fans do not want to hear it, but the Bears should not make any changes.
