The Chicago Bears' offensive line has been a major issue so far this season. While there has been a focus on the struggles of Nate Davis and Coleman Shelton, second-year right tackle Darnell Wright has yet to take the step forward that many were expecting to see this season.
While Wright hasn't been the weakest lineman for the Bears offensive line, there was anticipation that he would emerge this season as the best, and we haven't seen that consistency.
Darnell Wright has regressed at the start of his sophomore season.
Wright has allowed three sacks and nine pressures in the past two weeks. When you watch the tape, you can see that he has missed assignments in the run game and has also had issues completing run blocks at the second level, something that has consistently been an issue for him going back to Tennessee.
When you look at the line, Braxton Jones has reached his ceiling. Coleman Shelton has struggled with his new team, and the right guard position has been a mess. The Bears need to lean on Wright for stability, and he has not shown that yet this season, making everything much worse.
When you look at a team like the Minnesota Vikings, they have poor interior line play, but their tackles are so dominant that they can get by with an efficient offense. The Bears are not getting enough quality tackle play, and it is exposing how weak they are along the interior.
Wright is far from the problem, but he is hardly helping provide a solution and that is something the Bears cannot afford to see in a year from their future at right tackle.
