Things haven't been pretty for the Chicago Bears this year. But they've been able to pull out a handful of wins. A big reason why is running back D'Onta Foreman.
In the Bears last two victories, Foreman totaled 15 carries or more. Giving Foreman the ball makes a lot of sense.
The Chicago Bears are winning with D'onta Foreman
Foreman has stepped up big time ever since quarterback Justin Fields and running back Khalil Herbert went out with injuries. The Bears needed a playmaker, and Foreman answered. He's been the ace of the Bears scrappy offense over the past month.
The former Texas Longhorn is on a hot streak. He's carried the ball 81 times for 351 yards and four total touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) in his last five games, per ESPN. This is a three-down back who should be getting the ball 20 times a game, even when Herbert is back from injury.
Regardless of how you feel about Foreman, you can't deny he's fun to watch. Remember when he torched the Las Vegas Raiders for 120 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in a 30-12 rout? That's arguably the Bears best game of the year. That's what the Bears are capable of when they give Foreman the ball.
One thing the Bears have gotten right the past two seasons is running the ball down.
The Bears have 4,365 rushing yards since 2022, which is the most in this time span. It's often said pounding the ball is a fool-proof way to win games, but the W's haven't piled up for the Bears. What makes Foreman so special is that the Bears actually win when they give him the ball, as demonstrated by winning two of their last four games.
Foreman's on pace to have a career year with the Bears. This is an inspiring story when you consider he's mostly been a reserve player wherever he's gone.
Currently, Foreman is playing on a one-year, $2 million contract, according to Spotrac. Time will tell whether he's a Bear for more than a year, but it's safe to say he's earned the right to be considered for a long-term deal.
Next up, the Bears will faceoff against the dreaded division rival Detroit Lions (7-2) this Sunday. The Bears will need another great performance from Foreman if they want to win this game.
