Throughout the struggles that Chicago Bears' running back D'Andre Swift had to open the 2024 season, the biggest concern was how uninvolved he was in the passing game. Nobody saw him as a great between-the-tackles runner, but everyone knew that he could make an impact in the passing game. Still, he had six catches for 46 yards through three weeks.

Swift had more than that on one drive in the preseason. It made no sense why the Bears would not involve Swift, either. Their rookie quarterback and offensive line were struggling, and they needed a quick, easy connection to get things moving in the right direction. They did not even try looking at Swift, their big offseason signing. Finally, they looked his way against a poor Rams defense, and it worked.

Shane Waldron is finally using D'Andre Swift correctly

Swift had 7 catches on seven targets for 72 yards against the Rams on Sunday.

It should be obvious, but the Bears need to continue to use this outlet for the passing game. Even if the running game does not continue its success after this week, these passes can sometimes substitute for the run game. They are short and can get the defense creeping up. They can also take the safety attention away from the receivers, making their lives easier.

Shane Waldron has gotten off to a rocky start with the Bears, but you have to give him credit that he has made progress every week. You notice a confusing decision in the past week is quickly remedied the next week. At the very least that should have fans excited about the rest of the season.
