2. Justin Jones was the best of a bad group of pass rushers for the Chicago Bears

Justin Jones was the best interior defensive lineman on the Chicago Bears last season. No one is denying that at all. However, there is a reason why that may be what is overrating Justin Jones heading into the season.

The reason Justin Jones was valued so much is because the rest of the unit was so bad. Angelo Blackson was immediately in the dog house, and Armon Watts ended up being the next best rusher of the group. Watts was cut by the Vikings and claimed on waivers in August. This is who was competing with Jones to be the best on the team.

When you compared Justin Jones to the rest of the NFL, he was still below average in most areas. The Chicago Bears surprised some when they drafted two defensive tackles on day two of the NFL draft. However, the 3-technique is the most important position for the Matt Eberflus defense.

Also, Eberflus knows that Justin Jones is not a legitimate threat to trust moving forward. Jones will be a free agent at the end of the season. There is a chance that one of Zacch Pickens or Gervon Dexter will step into the starting role of Jones. They may trust the depth of whichever is not starting.

Before you know it, the Chicago Bears could be ready to move on from Justin Jones. Fans will remember as a year and a half gap holder for the next new thing, and they will only remember that he was signed because the team failed Larry Ogunjobi on his physical.

The fact thtat Justin Jones could easily go from the most valuable interior lineman to the fourth most by the end of the season speaks to how fragile his hold of that title is, and it speaks to the idea that he may be over rated.
