5 biggest position of needs after Chicago Bears trade down
4. Chicago Bears will be adding a left guard
It is not a lock that the team will be letting Cody Whitehair go, but it is hard not to see it happening. Sure, the Bears have the cap space and do not need to save money. Still, they can clear $10M by letting Whitehair go, so why would they want to pay that much?
There was a time when he was worth that much, but injuries have taken a hit on his play, and he is not the same as he once was. The Bears should be looking to replace him. The reality is that the team could even let Whitehair go, then sign a veteran replacement who is younger with more upside, and still save a bit of cap space.
Beyond that, if they drafted a left guard, it would obviously be a nice save in cap space. They would not have to draft a left guard in the first round, but if they did end up with Peter Skoronski, it would be smart to slot him into that role next season. Still, a mid-round pick could turn into a starter, and that would help them spend on other positions.
