3 positions with a starting job on the line at Chicago Bears training camp
1. Has Tyrique Stevenson already won the outside cornerback spot?
When the Chicago Bears drafted Tyrique Stevenson, the thought was that he was going to start on the outside sooner rather than later. The question was, what would happen with Kyler Gordon? Gordon played outside on base snaps, then moved into the slot during nickel downs. It may have been too much for the rookie.
Still, if he is just the slot, it does mean he will no longer play 100% of the snaps. That is a bit of a demotion, and the Bears are letting Gordon compete for it. Still, early indications are that this competition may be over before it even begins.
The coaches have said they feel Gordon will be better focusing on one position, and Stevenson has gotten almost every snap on the outside with the first-team defense. Unless something crazy happens, it is hard to see Stevenson not walking away with this and coming out as the starting outside option by week one.
