1. The Chicago Bears have cap space and a few building blocks

Unfortunately, a lot of the bright spots for the Chicago Bears this season are going to start after the season. Still, while Ryan Poles did make some questionable big spends in free agency, one thing he did that can be applauded by many is that he was frugal with spending.

He did not spend just to spend, and the Chicago Bears enter free agency with heaps of cap space. Per Spotrac, they will be second in the NFL. I guess it helps that they know they do not need to save up for a mega-Justin Fields extension, either. So, the quarterback will be taken in the top five, and the rest of the money will be spent on the roster.

Yes, we saw Poles struggle to build this last year, but maybe now he learned. Also, maybe the best free agent is not a linebacker this year. More than that, he is adding players in addition to last year.

D.J. Moore looks really good, and Darnell Wright may be a hit as well. Tremaine Edmunds is not a game-changer, but with a few more pieces on the defense, he will be just fine. Even someone like Roschon Johnson is a building block, and the team does not have to spend resources here.

This offseason it would be hard for Ryan Poles to spend his money on the wrong spots. I guess we can look forward to seeing how it happens.
