10 major questions Chicago Bears must answer week 2 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6. Will Jaylon Johnson follow Mike Evans?
An interesting note from the Chicago Bears' loss to the Green Bay Packers was the usage of Jaylon Johnson. Matt Eberflus has often had his cornerbacks play sides, but Jaylon Johnson played 29 snaps on the right side and 26 on the left side in week one.
For perspective, it took until week nine when Johnson had that many snaps on the left side last season. A lot of that could be because of the Packers' wide receivers. Christian Watson was out, so Romeo Doubs was the receiver to key in on. The Chicago Bears wanted to make life easy for Tyrique Stevenson in his rookie debut, so they asked Johnson to follow Doubs when he was on the field.
Still, there is a legitimate question whether Mike Evans will be followed by Johnson or not. The Buccaneers have two solid wide receivers, but if Chris Godwin is going to test the slot cornerback, then Johnson has to follow Mike Evans. The issue is that Evans and Johnson have squared off twice, and both times Evans came away victorious. He had two touchdowns in their matchup in 2021. Still, Johnson is expected to be better and is playing for a payday. He should be asked to follow Evans this week.
