Chicago Bears Roster Ranking: Most important player

Justin Fields is easily the most important player on the team. If he struggles to move the football through the air or on the ground, then this team is going to struggle. If Fields struggles, it could set the franchise back quite a bit. It means Ryan Poles will have to spend both 2024 first-round picks on another new quarterback and there's no guarantee they land the top pick in the draft. As great of a prospect Caleb Williams is, the Chicago Bears will be better off with Fields succeeding and those two first-round picks being used on other high-level prospects.

Personally, I am confident that Justin Fields will have a successful 2023 season both through the air and on the ground. I expect this team to win six to eight games and be in the playoff hunt in late November. Remember, a nine-win team could make the playoffs.

If we look at Justin Fields' back half of the 2022 season, there was plenty to like on tape. With some additional weapons to utilize this season, Fields should thrive. Not to mention, he's entering year two of the same system under Luke Getsy. We need to see him dump the ball off more than we did last season and also make some better anticipatory throws — throws that make guys open vs waiting for him to be open. If he can improve upon those two things, this offense can be dangerous.
