7. Will Chicago Bears pay up for Marcus Davenport?

If the Chicago Bears want to go with one of the top edge rushers, and another former first round pick coming off of his rookie salary, a name to watch is Marcus Davenport. I do not need to tell you how badly this roster needs an edge rusher.

After trading Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn they hoped to see someone ascend, and did not get any results. They probably have to redo the whole room. So, even if they drafted Will Anderson, they could be signing Marcus Davenport first.

Davenport has all of the upside and potential, but it only shown through one time in his career, a nine-sack season in 2021. It is fair to say that he is a solid run stuffer, and he gets pressure, but he does not convert to sacks enough.

Still, that is why he is a free agent and not back with New Orleans on a long term deal. This is what you have to debate when you go into free agency. Given his age and physical prowess, he fits the Bears' philosophy, both on the field and in the front office.

It will be interesting to see how the team goes about adding edge rusher, because at least two new names will be in here, and possibly three.
