The Chicago Bears are going to have to make tough decisions this offseason when it comes to their roster construction. They made strides last year but need to take the next step to become contenders. While the team should feel comfortable with how Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis looked at times last season, there are reasons for the team to sign a veteran guard to be ready behind both.

Is signing a trusted veteran guard in free agency a must for the Chicago Bears?

Nate Davis had a season to forget last year. He had personal issues emerge, he had injury issues, he was on a new team, and overall, things were moving pretty fast. Now, he enters a crucial second year with the team. If injuries persist, or if he struggles to take a step forward in terms of learning the playbook, the team has to have an option behind him.

Teven Jenkins has not been able to play a full season in the first three years of his NFL career, so it is hard to think he could do that in year four. It has been neck, back, calf, and concussion issues for Jenkins, just to name a few.

The Bears had three different players take snaps at left guard and four different players take snaps at right guard. They are bringing Ja’Tyre Carter back, but they need more depth than that to feel safe with the two talented but questionable starters at guard.

The best path for the Chicago Bears may be to sign someone who is older but cheaper and come in immediately to replace Jenkins or Davis. Then, they could try to draft someone who would not need to play right away and potentially could compete to replace one of the two in 2025. Is this the plan the Chicago Bears should make this offseason?
