10 sleepers Chicago Bears must consider in 2023 NFL draft
1. Alabama DL Byron Young is underrated in the 2023 NFL draft
The issue with finding a three-technique is that it is so hard to find the perfect fit. That is why the Chicago Bears did not address it last year, and it is why Matt Eberflus had to trade for DeForest Buckner, a former top-ten pick. If they miss on Jalen Carter, a name like Gervon Dexter comes to mind in round two. By round three, the pickings are slim.
One name to keep an eye on is Byron Young from Alabama. He played up and down the Alabama defensive line, which helps his value. Still, he could settle in at three-technique. He profiles closer to Justin Jones than DeForest Buckner, but he fights hard and wins with his hands. As a depth option, and another player of the caliber of Justin Jones, he would be welcomed to the current group.
It is not often you can say an Alabama guy is a sleeper, but this is a player with a higher floor than a ceiling. On day three, the Chicago Bears may want a reliable rotation piece, and that could be Byron Young.
