3 stats Chicago Bears fans must know about Noah Sewell
1. Noah Sewell will have to earn his role with the Chicago Bears on special teams
When the Chicago Bears drafted Noah Sewell, the common thought, aside from wondering if he could rush the passer, is that he is going to play special teams. While his ability to blitz and defend the run to make it seem like that would add up, he is not proven in that area yet. Because he was starting as a true freshman, he is limited on special teams.
Noah Sewell has 185 snaps on special teams, and 129 of them were on the field goal block unit. That is one of the last units the team will need him to play as most linebackers will need to be active on kick and punt return as well as kick and punt coverage.
Overall, Sewell has 56 snaps on those four phases of special teams. On one hand, this will hurt Sewell on the other, if anything, it shows they drafted him because he can start over Jack Sanborn. They know Sanborn will make the team due to special teams, and if Sewell can earn that role he will. However, they may know that they will keep him just because they see him as a better SAM than Jack Sanborn. We will see soon enough if they also trust him on special teams.
