7. Dylan Cole is losing his roster spot with the Chicago Bears

When the Chicago Bears signed Dylan Cole in free agency it felt like he would be a lock for the roster. However, things have not gone that way for him. Unfortunately, a lot of it is out of his control. He has missed nearly three weeks with an injury.

However, the team cannot wait for injured players, especially depth names, and this may cost Dylan Cole a roster spot. He was locked in as the fifth linebacker behind Tremaine Edmunds, TJ Edwards, Noah Sewell, and Jack Sanborn. That spot is a guaranteed roster spot because the team needs the depth. They may even keep a sixth linebacker if he brings enough special teams value.

However, without him being healthy, he has fallen past the fifth and sixth spots. The Chicago Bears claimed Mykal Walker on waivers after he was cut by the Falcons. Still, he has over 1,300 snaps on defense in three NFL seasons. He also has special teams value.

Micah Baskerville is a rookie UDFA, but he comes from LSU, so he is more NFL-ready than most. He has proven that by taking control of the defense as the MIKE with the second team in preseason week two. More than that, he has been a menace on special teams with a few strong hits.

Even if Cole gets healthy, he now has to show he is better than Baskerville and Walker, whereas two weeks ago, if he was healthy, it was his job. This will be one of the biggest weeks of Dylan Cole's career.
