The Chicago Bears are most likely going to trade Justin Fields this offseason. They may take it up until draft weekend, but it is still more likely than not that they take a quarterback first and move on from Fields. If they do, who are the teams that would be most likely to add him?
4. The Las Vegas Raiders make sense to acquire Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears
The Las Vegas Raiders are in a tough spot when it comes to quarterback. It seems clear that while Aiden O’Connell had moments, the team cannot move forward with him as their starter. They already benched Jimmy Garoppolo for O’Connell, and the names who brought in Garopolo are already gone. Worse than that, they cannot draft a quarterback at their current draft slot, at least not a quarterback that did not fall in the draft.
So, what do they do? Trade for Justin Fields. First, it makes sense because Champ Kelly has emerged as a favorite for the General Manager job. Kelly was the assistant director of player personnel for the Chicago Bears when they traded up for Fields, so there has to be some belief in Fields in that building.
The Raiders do hire Antonio Pierce as their head coach as well, Fields would fit the personality of the team, which would be to run the ball and play defense. With Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams, it would be one of the best situations that Fields could fall into.
The Raiders have to make things official at both General Manager and Head Coach before we start quarterback, but if things go as planned, we can plan on rumors of Fields to Las Vegas heating up.
3. Can the Chicago Bears trade Justin Fields to the New England Patriots?
The New England Patriots were just a few picks away from drafting Justin Fields before they ended up with Mac Jones. While it looks like the Jones era will end for the Patriots, a pivot for them could be to Justin Fields.
They do not have a General Manager yet, but their head coach is Jerod Mayo. It fits a similar mentality to Pierce's, where they will remain defense first. They also have an offensive line that is built to run the ball. Justin Fields would bring that mentality to the team.
The question with this one is that the New England Patriots draft third. Some this as a three-quarterback draft, but not every team will love all three the same. If the two quarterbacks that the Patriots are comfortable with go before them, do they trade for Fields and then pair him with Marvin Harrison in the way that fans of the Chicago Bears wanted?
Or, if the right quarterback does fall, does it make a trade harder because one team is out of the running for Justin Fields?
2. The Atlanta Falcons could trade the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields
One team that appears to be rumored for the Chicago Bears more than any other is the Atlanta Falcons. They once had a chance to draft Justin Fields but passed in favor of Kyle Pitts. Now, they have the chance to bring those two former first-round picks from the same draft class together.
Of course, the big influencing point will be the head coach. Arthur Smith did not want Justin Fields in the draft. So, this opens the door to the team acquiring Fields. However, they do not have a head coach, and we do not know if they would want Fields or not. Still, the situation is perfect.
They have a running back, tight end, and wide receiver just waiting to break out with a quarterback. They have a run-first offensive line as well as a defense with enough pieces to build around. Their first-round pick is not high enough to get an automatic starter at quarterback, but they could ship a second-round pick for Fields, draft on defense with their top pick, and then have a lot of enticing pieces. Would the next head coach like this plan?
1. Are the Pittsburgh Steelers destined to add another Chicago Bears former first-round quarterback?
The Chicago Bears benched Mitch Trubisky last year, realizing that the failed experiment in Chicago was more on the player than the environment. Now, they may be going right back to the well, looking at the next first-round pick that the Bears spent on a quarterback.
Justin Fields makes a lot of sense with the Pittsburgh Steelers. First, Mike Tomlin was adamant that he liked Fields coming into the NFL draft. Also, the team already leans into the run, and has Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, which could make this rushing attack dynamic.
Mike Tomlin knows how to win with poor quarterback play, and based on their play in recent years, a run-first attack that involves the quarterback as a rushing threat is pretty smart. After benching Kenny Pickett foro Mason Rudolph in the playoffs, they can bring in Fields and at least have him compete with Pickett next year. That is better than their current options.
Will the Chicago Bears make this move?
