The biggest change that is being talked about with the Chicago Bears offense this season is the switch at the quarterback position from Justin Fields to rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
The change that may have the greatest impact, however, is the switch they made at offensive coordinator. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the messaging the Bears sent at the start of the offseason was beyond Fields, former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was a large part of the reason why the offense was broken over the course of the past two seasons.
To Getsy's credit, his game plans often included a successful script at the beginning of the game. However, his biggest flaw is that he was unable to make an adjustment in-game after the defense solved the Bears' offense.
Perhaps, that is the biggest difference that new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will have for the Bears. Unlike Getsy, Waldron is joining the Bears' coaching staff after having vast experience as a playcaller in the NFL while working with different types of quarterbacks.
That isn't the only difference.
The Bears are ready for life without Luke Getsy.
In talking with Fox Sports, Bears' offensive lineman Teven Jenkins shared more insight into how the team's offense will look different.
""I feel more continuity this year," Jenkins says. "There's more explanation behind what we're doing. Instead of like last year, [where] some things were gray in some areas. [Now], we're really hammering out the small details and I feel like half the stuff is because we retained [offensive line coach] Chris Morgan.""Fox Sports
That is as direct of an indictment as a Bears' player will have of what went wrong with Getsy as the team's offensive coordinator. Numerous times over the past two seasons, the Bears' offense looked confused with a message that wasn't clear. While some were quick to blame Fields for that confusion, Jenkins seems to indicate it was on Getsy.
