Chicago Bears guard Teven Jenkins will be a free agent at the end of this season. While there is always a chance that he ends up returning to the team, it is starting to feel like this is the last year he will be with the Bears.

The fit just never worked out. His rookie year was tough because of an off-season back surgery. Then, the General Manager and head coach who drafted him were relieved of their duties. From there, they started to move Jenkins around.

Ryan Pace viewed him as a tackle, and Ryan Poles always saw him as a guard. Still, even when he played at guard, he initially had to split time with Lucas Patrick, despite the fact that Patrick was playing poorly and had an injured hand. It is clear he had to win Poles over.

He did not win Poles’ over and ended up missing some more time with an injury. The Bears signed Nate Davis in the offseason, which pushed Jenkins to the other side. His third position changed in as many years.

Jenkins had to miss time once again to start the season, and part of the reason why the Bears struggled so much out of the gates. So, the Bears signed plenty of depth including Ryan Bates, Coleman Shelton, and Matt Pryor, and that is on top of Ja’Tyre Carter, who had to replace Jenkins last year.

Teven Jenkins' future may not be with the Chicago Bears.

The Bears are not going to rely on Jenkins. When asked about his contract situation he said that nothing is on the table and his future with the team is up in the air. He came off as resigned to the fact that he has this year to audition for a new team next year.

Jenkins has been hurt every year, he changed positions every year, Ryan Poles did not draft him, and has never shown extended faith in him. Even if Jenkins played well, the Bears would probably be too nervous to pay the price tag that Jenkins knows he can get on the open market. If he plays poorly, he proves Ryan Poles correct once again and they will not bring him back.

The Bears are not going to re-sign Teven Jenkins in almost any scenario.
