This stat is very concerning for the Chicago Bears' hopes for Caleb Williams

There will be many takes over the course of Caleb Williams' rookie season with the Chicago Bears. Williams is already a polarizing player in the NFL, with some Bears fans ready to point out how different things may have been with Justin Fields if the team decided to trade the rights to the first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. With his play over the first two games of the 2024 season, Williams certainly is making life easy for the critics.

Williams' adjusted net yards per pass attempt sits at 1.44 through two games. This stat combines yards, touchdowns, sacks, and interceptions all into one, and it is divided by attempts, so it shows just how productive a quarterback is when it comes to helping his team. Sitting this low is obviously bad, even taking into context that it was his first two starts.

The Chicago Bears are seeing Caleb Williams at historically low levels

It's worth noting that Matt Stafford had an awful first two games of his career, by this measure, and managed to rebound into a great career from there. He was also a former number-one overall pick.

However, he was drafted into a worse situation and did not win a Super Bowl until he left the team that drafted him.

You can play with numbers and find that DeShaun Watson had an ANY/A of 2.85, Geno Smith was at 2.96, and even Peyton Manning was 2.84 during his first two games. All of those are bad starts, but not as bad as what Williams did in the last two weeks.

This will be fun to follow as the season goes on and we find out if Williams can rebound in the way that the likes of Stafford, Smith, and Manning did.
