2. Travis Homer is athletic

One reason to bet on Travis Homer is that he has plenty of upside. Homer is coming off of his rookie deal and will be 25 this upcoming season. We know that is the type of free agent that Chicago wants to dip into.

Beyond that, Homer has a strong athletic profile. Below you can see how he compares to recent NFL running backs, as well as running backs who just participated in the combine.

You can see that he is a bit shorter, and pretty good weight. However, the big stand-out numbers are the explosion and speed. He had a really solid 40-yard dash but was even better when it came to the vertical and broad jumps.

It is interesting to note that the Chicago Bears added another player with the explosion of a big play. The team will have to add some more power at some point to this room, but it is clear that they value speed and explosion from their running backs. When you factor that in, they were not going to pay for David Montgomery.
