The Chicago Bears offense hopes to find a rhythm during their Week 2 game against the Houston Texans, but the injury report continues to cast doubt on the unit's readiness for the primetime contest.
All eyes this week have been on Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen. Both wide receivers did not practice on Wednesday and that remained the case for the team's practice on Thursday.
While some were holding out hope that Odunze's day-to-day designation by Matt Eberflus would lead to a surprise appearance for the rookie during Sunday night's game, the latest update to the injury is all but confirmation that he won't be playing. A general timeline of Odunze's Grade 1 MCL sprain would suggest that he will be out for between 2-4 weeks. Depending on the severity, there is a chance that Odunze could be on the field for the Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Updated Week 2 Chicago Bears' injury report.
The case of Allen is a little more mysterious. It's clear that Allen is dealing with a heel issue and while the team has downplayed the concern, it does sound alarms when he hasn't practiced in consecutive days. Sure, this may be something that Allen has been to get by with during his time with the Chargers but it can't be stressed enough that he is playing with a new team, new quarterback, and new offensive coordinator. For as much as Allen may not need practice reps, he does need reps with Caleb Williams.
Thursday may have been a step backward for Ryan Bates after he could practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday. If Bates can't play due to the injury, Nate Davis will get the start at right guard. It will be interesting if Davis struggles as he did last Sunday. Will the Bears move further down the depth chart to utilize alternating right guards as they did last week?
