Chicago Bears Week 14 Winner No. 3: Montez Sweat

While a lot of players on defense could have made the winners list this week, what Montez Sweat has done for this Bears defense needs to be praised once again. He has opened up the pass rush for this defense just by being here. The way he puts pressure on an offensive line to send extra help his way has not been seen in Chicago since the prime Khalil Mack games. He added another sack today as well as five quarterback hits, a pass deflection, and he even came up big in run defense.

Another reason he stood out is the Bears had four sacks today, and he was involved in a few of them. Guys like Justin Jones and Gervon Dexter Sr. have been playing very well recently. It is no coincidence that the interior pass rush has gotten better since Sweat has gotten here. This is another example of how vital he is to this defense and how he has rewarded the Chicago Bears for their investment in him so far.

Many questioned whether Sweat would be able to play up to his contract, considering he had not been in the top tier of pass rushers yet in terms of production. Ever since he has gotten to the Bears, he has been one of the best in the league in terms of sack production as well as pressures. If this is the player that the Bears will get each week, then the contract they got him for is more than fair, and the second-round pick they gave up getting him does not seem as high of a price.

The Chicago Bears are technically still in the hunt, and they could compete for one of the final playoff spots in the NFC if they win three of their next four at least. The offense will have a huge test next week against the Cleveland Browns and their elite defense. This will be a telling game and it could be a huge momentum boost in the home stretch.
